Official Information:
Introduction
Inorganic Chemistry and the use of metals in therapeutic drugs have
become increasingly important over the last couple of decades (e.g.
cis-platin). More recent research is being undertaken in fields such as
cancer, arthritis, diabetes and cardiovascular medicine.
DD10 will highlight the importance of Inorganic Chemistry to medicine
and healthcare. The latest research will be presented and discussed..
Topics
Topics that will be covered in the discussion meeting include:
- Metals in practical healthcare and other consumer goods, including personal care, wound care, antibacterials, anti microbials
- Therapeutics, including development of metallodrugs (Pt, Au and other metals) for use as anti-cancer treatments, anti-inflammatory and antiarthritic drugs, and the development of radiopharmaceuticals
- Diagnostics, including the role of metals in contrast agents for medical imaging and magnetic resonance imaging
- Role of vitamins and minerals in the above.
