The ESOR symposia are dedicated to physical organic chemistry in its broader sense. Physical organic chemistry has undergone a tremendous change in the last few decades. From being a well-defined research area, it has spread into most fields of organic chemistry and related areas (e.g., organometallic chemistry, biochemistry, macromolecular chemistry, nanochemistry and more). Physical organic chemistry concepts, way of thinking and tools are regularly used in all the above-mentioned domains of research and a great deal of physical organic chemistry research is in fact conducted by many chemists who do not define themselves as physical organic chemists.
