Official Information:
SmartSurfaces2012: Solar & Biosensor Applications is a unique conference, bringing together leading scientists and engineers from around the world to discuss the latest advances in surfaces for application in solar and biosensor technologies. Surfaces underpin these key technologies and the highly productive multidisciplinary approach to surface research is the impetus for this focal conference. The ability to manipulate surfaces offers the possibility of tailoring devices for current engineering and scientific needs and of producing new materials to meet challenges in the energy and biomedical fields. The theme for the conference is From Light To Life and represents a powerful and unique opportunity to interact with a range of researchers all interested in creating and applying modified surfaces. These “Smart Surfaces” range from dye sensitized solar cells to labeled antibodies immobilized on surfaces for disease biomarker detection. Sessions will include Smart Surfaces for Sensors and Solar Cells, Nanomaterials, Surface Characterisation (photophysical, electrochemical, microscopic), Nanobiosensors and Nanobioanalytical Systems and Dye Sensitized Solar Cells. Plenary lectures from eminent international scientists [Richard M Crooks, Michael Grätzel, Charles R Martin, Michael Naughton, Daniel G Nocera, Itamar Willner] will be among the highlights of the scientific program. The cross-cutting expertise of these experts will perfectly complement parallel sessions in surfaces for sensors and solar cells. In addition to the invited lectures from the key international leaders in their field, there will be contributed oral talks and posters coupled to significant opportunities for one-to-one discussions and debate. Dublin, Ireland's capital city, is steeped in history and fuelled by youthful energy and in 2012 Dublin is honored to be designated the European City of Science, where creativity and great science meet.
